Distant and faraway son.

Everyone wants to go home. Everyone wants to be safe. Everyone wants to be loved. Everyone, no matter where they are, who they are or what time in history they were born, wants these things.

The story of the prodigal son, in the biblical account found in St. Lukes gospel speaks directly to these longings in a powerful way.

It’s a story about a two sons, and a father, and their interaction. The younger son cursed the father, and goes and does his own thing. He hits rock bottom and has a conversation with himself – and he realizes that his father’s presence is the only thing he wanted. And he returns home, expecting nothing but hard work and apologies.

The Father see him, from a a long way off- and immediately, without hesitation gives his son love, acceptance, and grace.

Home. It’s what we all want. If only we had a Father who loved unconditionally, and welcomed us with open arms, with Love.

St Luke seems to think we do….
